I'm back! :) 8 jaar later...

Op het moment dat ik dit schrijf is het exact 7 jaar, 249 dagen, 21 uur, 17 minuten en 40, 41, 42 seconden geleden dat ik mijn laatste blogpost plaatste. Het was een update over een maandelijkse Nail Art competitie waar ik destijds aan meedeed. Daarna werd het stil...... 

As I write this, it has been exactly 7 years, 249 days, 21 hours, 17 minutes and 40, 41, 42 seconds since I posted my last blog post. It was an update about a monthly Nail Art competition I was participating in at the time. Then it became quiet......

 

De blog startte ik als pubermeisje van 15 jaar met een passie voor Nail Art en nagellak. Destijds was ik echter 18 jaar geworden en mijn leven begon er anders uit te zien. Ik startte aan mijn studie Bestuurskunde en uitjes naar het nagellakrek in de drogisterij maakten plaats voor borrels op mijn studentenvereniging. Ik verloor nagellak als creatieve uitlaatklep uit het oog. Foto's maken voor mijn blog werd natuurfoto's maken voor instagram. Mijn nagels lakken werd schilderen, scrapbooking en creatieve bijbelstudie. En een blogpost schrijven werd het opnieuw doorlezen van een studiedeadline.  

Ik zou niet weten hoe de nagellak wereld er in 2024 uitziet. Toen ik stopte met bloggen waren nagelstickers, folie of lak met een crackle effect net uitgevonden. Hoe gekker de kunstwerkjes op je nagel, hoe beter, was 8 jaar terug het streven. Inmiddels is er gelnagellak en lijkt de trend eerder 'less is more' te zijn. Wie geen geld heeft voor onbetaalbare acryl nagels haalt een overpriced pakket van Doonails met 'dipping powder' in huis. Ik hield nageltrends na mijn blog exit op veilige afstand. 'Ik lak mijn nagels nooit', zei ik laatst tegen de pedicure. Ik schok er zelf van en miste de creatieve fantasiewereld die ik op mijn blog gecreëerd had. 

Volg mij de komende periode op mijn reis door nagellak land. Ik ga mijn nagels opnieuw laten groeien en bloeien en deel daarbij al mijn tips. Welke trends zijn er anno 2024? Hoeveel kost het? Welke kleuren zijn hip? Bestaat Nail Art nog? What about verzorgingsproducten? Ik beloof dat ik mijn ongezouten mening zal geven. Want dat was uiteindelijk de reden waarom ik op het bloggen uitgekeken raakte. Steeds vaker kreeg ik destijds nagelproducten van merken toegestuurd. Of ik ze wilde testen en een promotiebericht wilde schrijven. Een echt creatief proces maakte plaats voor lopende band werk. Of althans, zo voelde dat.  

Goed, tegen de tijd dat je dit leest, betekent het dat ik uitgevonden heb wat mijn Blogspot wachtwoord is, hoe de meest basic html codes ook alweer werken en hoe ik een bericht moet publiceren. Gelijk een tweede reden waarom ik stopte met bloggen getackled: mijn perfectionisme. Ik legde de lat 8 jaar terug zo hoog dat ik hem zelfs met springen niet meer kon halen. Steeds meer artikelen, uitgebreidere swatches en mooiere nail art. Nee, de lat gaat omlaag en ik stel mezelf geen doelen meer. Het proces is wat komende tijd telt, en ik zie wel wat er dan tot leven komt.

 I started the blog as a 15-year-old teenage girl with a passion for Nail Art and nail polish. However, at that time I had turned 18 and my life started to look different. I started my bachelor in Public Administration and trips to the nail polish stand in the local drugstore made way for drinks at my student association. I lost sight of nail polish as a creative outlet. Taking photos for my blog became taking nature photos for Instagram. Painting my nails turned into painting, scrapbooking and creative Bible study. And writing a blog post became reading through a study deadline again.

I don't know what the nail polish world looks like in 2024. When I stopped blogging, nail stickers, foil or polishes with a crackle effect had just been invented. The crazier the works of art on your nails, the better, was the aim 8 years ago. However: Gel nail polish is now available and the trend seems to be 'less is more'. If you don't have money for unaffordable acrylic nails, you can buy an overpriced package from Doonails with 'dipping powder'. I kept nail trends at a safe distance after my blog exit. "I never paint my nails," I said to the pedicurist recently. That lie shocked me and suddently I missed the creative fantasy world I had created on my blog.

Follow me on my journey through nail polish land in the upcoming period. I'm going to let my nails grow and bloom again and share all my tips. What trends are there in 2024? How much does it cost? Which colors are new? Does Nail Art still exist? What about care products? I promise to give my unvarnished opinion. Because that was ultimately the reason why I got tired of blogging back in 2016. I was increasingly receiving nail products from brands at the time. Whether I wanted to test them and write a promotional message. A truly creative process made way for assembly line work. Or at least, that's what it felt like. 

Well, by the time you read this, it means I've figured out what my Blogspot password is, how the most basic HTML codes work and how to publish a post. A second reason why I stopped blogging is by now already tackled: my perfectionism. I set the bar so high 8 years ago that I couldn't even reach it when jumping. More and more articles, more extensive swatches and more beautiful nail art. No, the bar will be lower and I no longer set big goals for myself. The process is what counts in the near future, and I will see what comes to life on my hands :)
